View source for Primal Warlock Guide

This page is intended as a guide for a Beastlord / Necromancer / Shaman build. I wanted to gather a lot of information about the three classes and format it all in a way that is useful to me to serve as a reference once the game launches. But since it won't follow the exact format of the official build guides, I thought it might be better to do my own thing in my own space here, while still keeping it available for others if they find it useful. I also intend to update the official Beastlord-Necromancer-Shaman page as I go along.

Overview
The primary focus of this build is to be able to build yourself and your team up through powerful buffs, while weakening your enemies through powerful debuffs and damage over time spells. The Shaman class is the core of the build - providing the buffs, debuffs, healing and health-to-mana conversion to keep the whole thing rolling. The Beastlord class provides front line melee survivability and damage, including important hybrid stances like Evasive Stance and the Spellblade Invocation. The Necromancer class builds off the Shaman's damage over time with even wider array of efficient damage over time spells, life taps to improve survival, powerful utilities like feign death. Since Beastlords and Necromancers are both primary pet classes, you have the option of using whichever pet happens to be strongest at the time, while your active pet benefits from the additional pet equipment slots provided by all three classes.

Strengths
* Damage is melee, pet, and damage over time centric, which all works well for efficient, long drawn out combat.
* Buffs and Debuffs are very valuable for both group and solo play.

Weaknesses
* Lack access to full plate armor and tank stances.
* Damage sources are less impactful during battles featuring large numbers of enemies that die relatively quickly.

Generally speaking, Iksar are probably the best suited for this build given that they have bonus regeneration and good all around stats. Also they can have all three classes as their primary, so you have more flexibility in deciding which you want to set as your primary at level 11. Trolls are another good choice - their higher hit points and boosted regen are a good fit for this build since it relies heavily on turning hit points into mana (through Canabalize and Lich spell lines), and then converting mana into health (through Regen, Heals, and Lifetaps).

That being said, you should consider other factors. You might just really want to play a froglok, or you prefer starting in Freeport. Maybe you are considering both a Primal Warlock (Beastlord-Necromancer-Shaman) type of character or an Elemental Brawler (Beastlord-Magician-Wizard) type of character. Since you're uncertain, but you know Beastlord is the core of your character, you may need to stick to Beastlord Primary races. And don't forget, each race gets a different Beastlord Warder.

In the end though, any of the choices will work out, since the differences between them all by the time you reach level 50 are relatively minor.

Important Spell Lines
NOTE: Keep in mind - things are still very much in flux, and data is limited. Details here are drawn from other parts of the wiki which are also not yet up to date. This section will need testing and revisions as the game goes live.

Pets
With this build you have three different pet lines to choose from, though you will only be able to have one summoned at a time. Use this chart to help determine which pet is ideal for your level - though keep in mind Shaman pets are always going to be weaker than the Beastlord and Necromancer options.

Damage Over Time
DoT Stacking
Players can stack Damage over Time spells, even the same spell line, with each other. But from a single player, you cannot stack two spells from the same spell line. DoTs with additional components - like debuffs or snare - probably do not stack from multiple players, but needs testing.

The intent for the spell lines listed below is to show which do and do not stack from a single player. If the spells are in the same spell line, they do not stack and you should usually use the highest one available.

More testing is needed to confirm these spell lines.

DoT Spell Lines
Note: Keep in mind, any spells that apply direct damage can cause Root spells to break. Any of the DoTs listed below that cause no direct damage should be safe to use with Root.

Healing
Note: Necromancers get a line of spells that transfers their health to someone else. However, since this build already includes Shaman healing, you are unlikely to use the Necromancer heal line. Shaman heals are stronger and more efficient, without reducing your own health. Similarly, Necromancers get a line of pet heals, but they are generally inferior to Beastlord pet heals, assuming both work on both types of pets.
