Walkthrough

Burning Soul of the Pious

In the depths of Splitpaw Lair (#6 on the map) you can find Brother Hayle, a cleric of Rodcet Nife. He has been captured by the Split Paw Clan gnolls, and is a key figure in the quest for the Paladin blade Soulfire. Open his cell door wth the switch on the wall outside.

After you complete the Zimel's Blades quest and obtain the Soulfire you'll have options. If your active loadout has Paladin and Shadowknight, then you'll receive a message. To proceed with the Torrid Corruptor quest, murder Brother Hayle. He drops the Burning Soul of the Pious, which contains a message for murderers like you. Right click the Soul in your inventory (you must right-click the soul in order to progress the quest) to receive a message from a greater power:

As you stare into the fading embers within your palm, you are haunted by the visage of Brother Hayle and your decision to slay him. What temptation drove you to this madness? Within moments, a voice fills your head. "You've done well. This loathsome soul sought to spread their own piety into the minds of gnolls, disgracing the blessing of decay I've bestowed upon them." As the voice speaks, you feel a churn in your stomach as if you are about to be sick. "If you wish to understand your actions, seek out my servant, Lord Grimrot. Bestow upon them my gift through your hands, a dark reaver, and a token of your loyalty, the soul you have claimed. Only though them will you learn the truth."

Burning Soul of the Pestilent

Make sure you have at least Kindly faction with the Bloodsabers. Guard Shilster's Stout is a quick but more expensive method, and the Gharin's Note (evil) quest is slower but more economical.

Find Lord Grimrot (1377, 1172) by the skeletons in South Karana. There's a living and undead version with the same name. The turn-in requires the living version. It's rumored to be a 3.2-hour spawn. One of the fastest ways to spawn Lord Grimrot is to make a non-respawning instance during daytime between 6am and 6pm. Use /time to see the in-game time.

Turn in the clicked version of Burning Soul of the Pious and Dark Reaver to the living version of Lord Grimrot.

Lord Grimrot says, 'You have served me well. You may yet prove useful to my master.'
You gain experience!!

You receive a non-clickable Burning Soul of the Pious.

Murder the living version of Lord Grimrot. You will get the usual faction hits from killing him.

Loot the Burning Soul of the Pestilent and the Pestilence Scythe with 1 charge of Vampiric Curse and no item lore. (There is another Pestilence Scythe of the same name with no charges that isn't required for this quest. Its item lore says "Pestilence Scythe(No Soul)".)

Right-click the Burning Soul of the Pestilent:

As you stare into the fading embers within your palm, the feeling of redemption is lost upon you as you bear witness to the visage of Lord Grimrot cursing you from beyond for your sudden betrayal. Within moments you hear laughter in your mind as you are pierced by an overencumbrance of terror that speaks to your very being. "This loathsome soul sought to serve my enemy and deserved such a fate. As for your pitiful plight, if you still live in fear of your regrets, then seek out Jotayi Ibupran. Show them you have served me well, and you may yet prove your worth."

The next part requires Heretics Warmly Faction.

  • You can gain Heretics faction by killing Kobolds in The Warrens. At +5 Heretics per Kobold kill, it takes about ~2 rounds of killing the entire zone.
  • If you are a Paladin, it helps to set your diety to Agnostic.

Go to Paineel and find Jotayi Ibupran (726, 856, -54) in the Necromancer guild, The Abattoir, on the third-floor balcony overlooking the courtyard.

Turn in the Burning Soul of the Pestilent and the Pestilence Scythe (with charges, not uncharged) to Jotayi Ibupran.

Jotayi Ibupran says, 'My master has sent you? Such is the will of Cazic-Thule. I beseech you to be my vengeance. Before the war, I was friend to a paladin named Inte Akera, a man who could not let go of his sense of zeal. In our last battle, I fell to his blade, leaving me now the grim image you see before you. I believe he must have left Norrath some time ago, as I can no longer sense his life force anymore. It would bring my soul to rest to see his face beyond the veil.'

Burning Soul of the Virtuous

Get yourself keyed access to the Plane of Sky's island 4, the one with the flying horses and griffins. Careful of the an essence carrier mobs, as they are scowls, ready to attack. Make sure you have a safe path from island 1 up to inside island 4's windmill. You can use invisibility to go unnoticed.

Next, go to the quest room from Island 1, with all the Efreeti. You can either leave the instance and renter, jump off an island, or cycle up past island 8: Veeshan's Island to get back to island 1 to be able to enter the quest island.

Find Dason Goldblade and prepare for a fight.

Give Dason Goldblade 500 platinum, and this will spawn Inte Akera, a level 55 Paladin, inside island 4's windmill. He will only stay up for a limited time. Hurry up to Island 4's windmill, and you will see him sitting down inside the windmill. If you still have the faction, he will consider you an ally, and when you hail him, he will say:

Inte Akera says, 'Greetings, _____. I am Inte Akera. I have retired to the Plane of Sky after a long life toiling on Norrath's soil. Have you retreated here as well, or are you merely visiting?'

Murder Inte Akera. You will get the usual faction hits from killing him.

Loot the Burning Soul of the Virtuous and right-click it:

As you stare into the fading embers within your palm, the fear of your mistakes overwhelms you as the visage of Jotayi's vengeance upon Inte echoes from the beyond. You are left with a long silence and have no conclusions left to draw from. You clasp the flames away in disgust, and close your eyes to seek inward. A voice calls out to you from the void. "Still the gods' plaything, are you? A miserable fate we all have come to learn. You'll not find any truth despite their promises. It has led me only to selfish spite. My name is Luxio, I was once a knight such as you. If you still need guidance, seek me out in Freeport amidst the rest of the forsaken rabble."

Torrid Corruptor

Get Kindly or higher Dismal Rage faction. Assist the Great Xelha quest in East Freeport is probably the easiest method:

Find Luxio Nulsis in the East Freeport tunnels near the Shadow Knight and Necromancer guild masters. He won't respond to hails:

Luxio Nulsis says, 'Leave me, I have no interest in speaking with you.'

However, tell Luxio "I still seek guidance":

Luxio Nulsis says, 'So, you've finally sought me out. It is unfortunate to see you still carry the guilt of your past with you. I know that feeling all too well. I can only advise to be rid of it once and for all. If you wish, as a fellow knight, I will take the sword and the three souls you've collected. This burden I will carry for you.'

Give him the three Souls and the Soulfire:

You gain experience!!

You receive the Torrid Corruptor.
