Skill Athletics
The skill that governs unbuffed velocity speed,
Athletics is a skill in EQL that all classes get at level 1 and increases per level.
Athletics improves your character 'physically' by increasing your characters unbuffed velocity, jump height, and reduces the amount of Endurance your character uses.
Athletics skill up has three ways to trigger: every tick (6 seconds) while moving, every tick of endurance to regen until full, and any time your character jumps.
Athletics velocity at max skill level is currently 39. By comparison, Journeyman's Boots are 40 velocity.
Regarding Velocity vs Runspeed - In EverQuest and EverQuest Legends, runspeed and velocity describe two related but distinct parts of movement. Runspeed is the familiar stat older players know; the multiplier that determines how fast your character is allowed to move, modified by things like SoW, JBoots, Bard songs, encumbrance, and AAs. Velocity, on the other hand, is the game engine’s real‑time measurement of your actual movement through the world. It reflects not only your runspeed but also terrain slope, water resistance, knockbacks, acceleration, and any movement‑altering effects. In short: runspeed is your potential speed, velocity is your moment‑to‑moment speed, and Athletics interacts with the latter by improving how efficiently your character accelerates, climbs, jumps, and maintains movement. (This paragraph needs to be moved to a page for Velocity, it lives here temporarily until the Velocity page exists.)
