Introduction
EQLWiki is a community‑run, player‑maintained wiki that is officially supported by the EQ Legends community team. While not formally sanctioned or operated by Daybreak or Game Jawn, the wiki is recognized as the primary resource for players and is integrated into the official EQ Legends Discord. Developers and staff may contribute in an unofficial capacity as players.
Philosophy
The purpose of this wiki is to serve as a central source of information related to EverQuest Legends as documented by the EQLegends (EQL) community.
Although this wiki began from a fork of the Project 1999 wiki, it is now a separate project with its own scope, standards, and editorial direction. Content here should be written for EQL and P99-specific content that does not apply to Legends should be removed or tagged Delete.
The wiki should be relevant, dynamic, and useful. It should remain community-driven rather than overly database-driven, and it should evolve alongside the needs and interests of EQL players. Where appropriate, pages should note when content has changed over time or differs across eras, server rulesets, or implementations.
Editing the wiki is strongly encouraged. Basic wiki editing help can be found here. This wiki also includes some specialized templates and conventions that may require additional explanation.
Note: Ongoing discussion about improvements, policies, and formatting conventions should take place on the appropriate talk pages.
Our editors may work quietly in their own corners of Norrath, each improving the parts of the wiki they know best. Yet somehow, all those individual efforts come together to create something that keeps getting better and better.
Once in a while our independent editing styles can bump into each other, and that's when things can get a little too social. To keep everything running smoothly, this page helps clear up what does and doesn't belong on the wiki.
Editing Standards
AI Generated Content
Our content is created by players, for players, and we want it to feel that way. All graphics and readable page text should be crafted by real human contributors who know and love the game. While AI tools can be helpful for things like spellcheck, grammar, or polishing a sentence, fully AI‑generated pages, guides, or images aren't allowed here. We're not here to police anyone's workflow, but we do want to keep the heart of the wiki authentically player‑made. If something reads as obviously AI‑written, it may be edited or removed so the quality of the wiki, and our contributions, shine the way they deserve.
The EQLegends Wiki
All content on this site should be related to the game of EverQuest Legends (EQL), or other EverQuest official servers where appropriate. Any other content, including out-of-era content, content from other games, or real-life player (not character) information, is prohibited.
Write in an Objective Tone
Stick to fact based writing for the wiki, and focus on speaking for everyone (aka the royal "we"). Pages providing quest details, walkthroughs, or zone guides are encouraged to provide clear steps and offer up alternative ways to accomplish the quest tasks. Avoid opinions, speculation, or theorycrafting outside of pages that are clearly dedicated to such.
When in doubt, follow these guidelines:
- Opinions and speculative thoughts should not be included in wiki pages
- Signatures should not be included on page contents or wiki guide contents as you are not speaking in your own voice, you are speaking for the royal "we".
- You can give tips and warnings, as these can be fact based and not guesses or opinion.
- You can add multiple or alternative options/steps for things to help express multiple opinions.
Edit in Good Faith
In general, when a player edits a page to say a certain mob has a certain HP, it's assumed they did so after somehow determining that mob's HP. If they made a mistake in their calculation, that's ok, because they were still doing their best to make the wiki better for everyone.
However, if a troll changes a mob to have the wrong HP on purpose or renames the mob to "Doug" (eg. because Doug is a forum member they dislike, and they want to insult him somehow), then it's clear that edit wasn't made in the wiki's best interest, and the editor will face sanctions (likely a temporary ban for their first offense, and a permanent one if they continue to edit with bad intentions).
In other words, no one will ever be punished for honestly trying to improve the wiki, but they may be punished anytime they edit with an intention other than communal improvement.
The Wiki is Only for Communal Info (With Some Exceptions)
In general, our wiki is like an encyclopedia, which means it should only contain information that is neutral or generally agreed upon.
However, we do have exceptions: personal opinions are allowed on personal pages. In general, this means a page with someone's name in the title, such as a Magelo page, or a claimed guide page. If it is not a personal page, then please do not add a signature or post personal opinions.
For more info, see #Claimed_Guides
Details
This wiki is not a place for drama of any kind, personal disputes, or edits targeting individuals. Do not use pages for personal attacks, retaliatory edits, or image changes based on who appears in a screenshot.
Spam, advertisements, offensive content, 'adult' content, etc., will be removed without warning and may result in a temporary or permanent ban, with or without warning.
Getting Help
If you believe the wiki was edited in a way that intentionally violates the above standards, please contact Caliente or another wiki administrator, via wiki talk or (preferably) via Discord (@z3r04cc3ss - especially if it is urgent) or the forum PM system.
General FAQ
- What is EQLegends?
- EQLegends is an EverQuest community and wiki project focused on documenting Classic EverQuest in the context relevant to this wiki.
- Why use and build this wiki? There are several websites regarding EverQuest and its contents.
- Because EQLegends benefits from having a dedicated, curated, community-maintained reference tailored to its own content and priorities.
- Where can I get general help for the wiki software?
- Consult the User's Guide for information on using MediaWiki.
- What if I have questions about how to do or format something?
- Talk pages are the best place for these discussions. If another editor has been working in a similar area, you can ask on their talk page. Otherwise, use a general help discussion page such as Help_talk:Contents.
- How do I add an item?
- See #Items below.
- How do I add an NPC or mob?
- See #NPCs below.
- How do I add a quest?
- See #Quests below.
- How do I add a spell?
- See #Spells below.
- How do I add a faction page?
- See #Factions below.
- How do I rename a page? / How do I move a page?
- See Help:Rename a Page.
- What is the best way to help?
- 1. Missing Pages
- 2. List of Screenshots Needed
- 3. Pages with Broken File Links
- 4. Marking Different Eras
- 5. Raid Encounters
- 6. Anything you are interested in and want to contribute
- Why can't I edit the main page?
- It may be protected to prevent vandalism. Propose changes on Talk:Main Page.
- What is with the gear and quest lists on class pages? How can I edit them?
- Some content is transcluded from other pages. You must edit the source page rather than the page where the content appears.
- What is with dynamically generated special pages?
- Some special pages may be generated by server-side code or database queries rather than normal wiki markup. Those cannot always be edited in the usual way.
Formatting Guidelines
Since this is a community wiki, editors are encouraged to make useful improvements. However, when changing the format of a page type or starting a large new project, please aim for consistency and follow through on standardization. The guidelines below are starting points and may evolve over time.
In general, feel free to double‑space in the source editor if it helps you stay organized — it doesn’t hurt anything. Just remember that browsers ignore extra spaces and most extra line breaks, so any double‑spacing you add is only visible to us while editing, not to readers viewing the final page.
For formatting purposes, you can use
to force a line break when you actually need one, since most line breaks are currently ignored after the first line break in wiki tables.
What Is A Page?
There are three things that make up the skeleton of most pages: Category, Template, and Era. All three of these are used to complete a page.
Category
A Category is a way to organize and group related pages on the wiki. Categories help readers browse topics (such as NPCs, Items, or Zones) and help editors keep the wiki structured. Categories appear at the bottom of a page and can be added using .
Template
A Template is a MediaWiki feature that uses the system to insert reusable code, formatting, or infoboxes into pages. Templates are part of the wiki’s technical infrastructure, they are not the same as the contributor guides in this section. To avoid confusion, our page‑creation guides are called Blueprints, not templates.
Era
An Era is a time‑based classification used on this wiki to indicate when content existed or was relevant in EverQuest’s history. Eras help track progression, patch timelines, and which content belongs to which period of the game.
See the Page Blueprints below for details on how to create a new page for the wiki.
Claimed Guides
Claimed guides & the user namespace
Claimed guides (sometimes referred to as "personal guides" or "owned guides") are pages whose titles include an author’s name, such as:
- The Iksar Way: A Monk’s Guide by Caliente
- Macro Guide by Mazirian
- Alanna’s Race Change Guide
These are personal, opinion‑based, or experience‑driven documents. They represent the author’s voice, not a community consensus.
On EQL Wiki, all claimed guides must be created and stored in the User namespace. For example:
User:Caliente/The Iksar Way: A Monk’s GuideUser:Mazirian/Macro_Guide_by_MazirianUser:Alanna/Alanna's_Race_Change_Guide
Any claimed guide created in the main namespace will be moved to the author’s User namespace.
This keeps the main namespace focused on collaborative, factual content, while the User namespace holds personal, subjective guides.
Technical behavior (EQL Wiki)
The EQL Wiki uses a protection extension that restricts editing of User‑namespace pages:
- Only the page’s owner
- And administrators
can edit pages in the User namespace.
Regular editors cannot directly modify claimed guides once they are in User space.
Editors familiar with standard MediaWiki should note: on a default installation, most User pages may be editable by any logged‑in user. On the EQL Wiki, User pages are intentionally protected to support this guide model.
How to respond to or improve a claimed guide
If you want to suggest changes to a claimed guide:
- Use the Discussion tab on the guide to leave comments or suggestions, and/or
- Contact the author in Discord to propose updates.
If the author is inactive or unreachable and the content is important to keep current, consider:
- Creating a new, generic guide in the main namespace (without a personal name in the title), and
- Linking to or drawing from the claimed guide as a historical or reference source.
When not to use a claimed guide
Use the main namespace for:
- factual documentation
- mechanics and systems
- items and zone data
- universal or community‑maintained guides
Pages in the main namespace should not include personal names in their titles and are intended to be edited freely by the community.
Community Guide Blueprint
Use this for factual, community-maintained guides in the main namespace. Do not sign the page or write it as a personal opinion piece. Build-specific three-class guides should normally be created through Build Guides instead.

Create New Page
There is one normal way to create a new page on the wiki: search for the page title and follow the create-page link when no page already exists.
When you open the source editor (via the 'Create Source' button in the upper right) for a page that does not yet exist, EQL Wiki also provides a Create from a Blueprint selector above the normal editor. The selector does not replace the editor; you can ignore it and write the page manually. This will not be visible in the visual editor mode, shown by the highlighted 'Create' button in the upper right.
The Blueprint selector is maintained from this Help page:
- Any section heading whose name ends in Blueprint or Blueprints is eligible to appear in the selector.
- The first
<pre>...</pre>block under that heading is the code loaded into the editor. - Editing a Blueprint here changes what future page creators receive.
- Adding a new properly named Blueprint heading here makes it available without maintaining a second copy of the Blueprint elsewhere.
You can still use either editing style:
Simple Editor: Edit → Insert → Template
This lets you apply MediaWiki templates that fill in standardized display structures.
Full Editor: Edit Source
This gives you direct access to the raw wikitext. On empty pages, the Blueprint selector can fill this editor with a starting skeleton.
Both approaches are intended to keep common page types consistent without preventing experienced editors from working directly in wikitext.
Why We Use the Term “Blueprints”
We use the term Page Blueprints for page-creation skeletons: raw wiki-code frameworks intended to be copied or loaded into a new page.
This avoids confusion with MediaWiki Templates. In MediaWiki, “templates” specifically refer to the transclusion system used for reusable code, infoboxes, formatting helpers, and other infrastructure.
NPCs
NPCs, also known as Named Mobs.
See Template:Namedmobpage. A prototypical example is Ambassador DVinn Named Mob Page.
Prefixes such as a, an, and The should generally be preserved in page titles where they match in-game names. If a page is created with an alternate capitalization or without its prefix, make sure common title variants redirect to the correct page.
In situations where you need to create two different NPC pages with identical names, such as "a goblin alchemist - Permafrost Keep" and "a goblin alchemist - Misty Thicket"; you can use the zone name or something else as the differentiator between them, and if necessary, more than one differentiator, including but not limited to: Zones, Levels, Types (Monster, Merchant, Rare Creature), Lore tags, Variants, Loot tables, Factions.
Common NPC flags for specials include: Summons, Enrages, Rampages, Flurries, Unslowable, Unmezable, Uncharmable, Unstunable, Unsnareable, Unfearable, Immune to Magic, Immune to Flee, Immune to Casting from Range (Bellycaster), Immune to Pacify, Ignore Root Aggro Rules, See Invis, and See Hide.
When labeling drop frequency of loot, you can use this table as a guide:
| Drop Frequency Labels | |
|---|---|
| "Always" | 100% |
| "Common" | >= 50% |
| "Uncommon" | >= 25% |
| "Rare" | >= 5% |
| "Ultra Rare" | < 5% |

Armor Sets
Listing a full armor set can be done with Template:Gear Set. Replace the example item names with the pieces belonging to the set. Updates made to the individual item pages are then reflected through the Gear Set output.

Categories
Categories on the EQL Wiki are the backbone of how we organize information. Each page - whether it describes an NPC, an item, a zone, a quest, or anything else - can be tagged with one or more categories to show how it fits into the larger structure of the game world. These tags appear at the bottom of a page and act as navigational anchors, letting readers quickly browse related topics and discover connections they might otherwise miss. For editors, categories provide a consistent framework that keeps the wiki tidy, searchable, and easy to maintain.
We use categories because the Legends world is vast, interconnected, and full of overlapping systems. A single item might belong to several categories at once. By applying these identifiers, we allow the wiki to automatically generate lists, populate dynamic zone guides, and surface information in ways that would be impossible to maintain manually. Categories also help standardize page creation: when editors follow consistent tagging practices, the entire wiki becomes more coherent, more discoverable, and more useful for everyone.
Below is a trimmed down overview of our current category list, containing just a few popular tags.

You can view all of the currently available category tags available using this link:
https://eqlwiki.com/Special:Categories.
Item categories should generally include:
- One category for each slot or skill associated with the item, such as Category:Chest, Category:Piercing, or Category:Secondary
- One category for each allowed class, such as Category:Bard Equipment
This allows the wiki to generate useful lists of items by class and by slot.
Item effects such as procs, click effects and focus effects should normally be linked (whether the effect page exists or not).
Category Page Blueprint
Category pages should briefly explain what belongs in the category. Add a parent category when one exists.
Briefly describe what pages belong in this category and how editors should use it.
Mouseover Tooltip
A normal item link:
Dragoon Dirk
An item link with mouseover tooltip:

This can work inside tables, but not reliably in standard wiki bullet or numbered lists. For lists, use HTML list tags instead:
<ul><li> Item One
</li><li> Item Two
</li><li>
</li></ul>
For Mouseover Spell Tooltips, you can use the following code, replace the first SPELLNAME with the name of the spell, and the second SPELLNAME with whatever text you want for the link:
<span class='itemeff'>SPELLNAME</span>
And if you just want to create the Mouseover for a spell tooltip without linking to the spell page, you can use:
<span class='itemeff'>Snare</span>
Images
The wiki handles images using standard MediaWiki conventions.
Regular Pages
On a normal page, add the image code as though the file already exists:

You can also specify size and alignment:

See [1] for more on image formatting.
After adding the image code, preview or save the page and follow the resulting red link to upload the file.
Quests
A prototypical example is the Harvester Quest. Quest pages should provide the identifying information first, followed by the reward, dialogue, walkthrough or steps, and any quest-specific notes.

When a quest has unusual mechanics, add the necessary sections rather than forcing every quest into an identical shape.
Zones
An example is The Crushbone Zone. For Related Quests, normally include quests that begin in that zone unless there is a clear reason to include others.
Outdoor and dungeon zones use the normal Zone Blueprint. Cities use the City Blueprint because their summary information is different.
Zone Page Blueprint
Use this shared layout for outdoor and dungeon zones, including zones with a confirmed raid instance. Cities may continue to use the City Page Blueprint.
Replace the @@...@@ fields with confirmed information, or ? when it is unknown. Keep the opening overview and Map section even when details are missing. Do not invent NPCs, item drops, coordinates, map files, or access requirements. Notable NPCs are an editorial selection; ordinary monsters belong in the dynamic zone list when that list is supported. Preserve exact uploaded map filenames and image captions.
Answer whether the zone has a raid instance separately from which instance an observation came from. Keep the optional block between EQL-ZONE-RAID:BEGIN and EQL-ZONE-RAID:END only when a raid instance is confirmed; remove the entire block otherwise. Raid information belongs in its own overview and Raid Map below the exact Raid Instance heading. Do not copy normal-only facts or a general dynamic list into that section.

Loc Mapping
Loc Mapping is a dynamic tool that allows readers to hover over a location reference and see a marker on the zone map image.
For example:
The Hills In Qeynos
Written as: Qeynos Hills
This tool requires accurate zone coordinates on the image in order to display properly.
See Adding a Loc Map if you want to help add loc mapping to zones that are missing it.
Class Pages
Class pages are long-lived reference pages and should be standardized carefully without removing useful class-specific information. A normal class page includes Description, Creation Guide, spells or songs where appropriate, skills, Stances & Invocations, class-specific quests, gearing, and FAQ material.
Class Page Blueprint

Spells
Spell pages should follow Template:Spellpage. Additional notes or clarifications can be placed in the appropriate template fields. For an example, see Lull.
The template distinguishes true heals from ordinary beneficial spells through the spell_type field, so use the actual in-game spell type rather than guessing from individual effect lines.
Spell Page Blueprint
Replace the placeholders and remove fields that are genuinely not applicable.

"NPC Only Spell" may also be used for spells that are item-only or otherwise unavailable to players when that is the correct classification.
Factions
See Template:Factionpage. Faction pages should explain the faction and organize known ways to raise and lower it. When a specialized template does not cover a new case cleanly, preserve the same reader-facing structure rather than inventing incompatible fields.
Faction Page Blueprint
This Blueprint uses the established reader-facing faction structure so it remains usable even when the underlying faction template evolves.

If Template:Factionpage is being used on the page, keep that template as the source of the final layout and use these same conceptual sections and lists.
Dynamic Zone Guides
Some zone pages use special templates or category-driven queries to display NPCs and items found in that zone. These are "dynamic" in the sense that the page content is assembled automatically from categories rather than maintained as a manual list on the zone page itself.
For example, if an item or NPC includes:

it may appear automatically on Najena's zone lists.
These lists may not update immediately after category changes.
Transclusion
Transclusion is when one wiki page automatically pulls in and displays content from another page, so you only have to maintain it in one place.
Our wiki uses Labeled Section Transclusion (LST), which is an extension MediaWiki sites often install to allow reliable section‑level transclusion even when the content contains tables, templates, complex markup, nested formatting, etc.; All the things that break normal transclusion, such as:

So, for example if I want to transclude Class AAs from main AA page to the Shadow Knight class page, I just insert the following code where I want the AAs to appear:

Marking Different Eras
The wiki includes templates that display specialized content and call attention to era-specific or editorial conditions.
Era Templates
For instance, to mark a page of content as belonging to the classic era, use:
Classic Era
To mark an inline piece of content instead, use:
Classic Era Inline
Other era templates can be found in Category:Era Templates.
Problem Templates
These templates indicate that something on a page needs attention.

Discussion
Most users are not familiar with "Discussion" pages, so this template can be used as a reminder:
Talk
Posting a Message to Another User
On EQL Wiki, the primary way to contact another editor is by leaving a message on their User Talk page. This is the standard communication method when discord is not an option.
How to Leave a Message
1. Open the User Talk Page
- Every user has a talk page located at:
https://eqlwiki.com/User_talk:USERNAME- Replace USERNAME with the person you want to contact.
2. Click "Add topic"
- At the top of the page, select Add topic.
- This creates a new discussion section so your message is easy to find.
3. Enter a Subject
- Type a short, clear subject line in the Subject/headline box.
- Examples:
- "Question about your recent edits"
- "Help needed with formatting"
- "Clarification about the Bard page"
- "Question about your recent edits"
4. Write Your Message
- Type your message in the main text box.
- Use normal wiki text; no special formatting is required.
5. Sign Your Message
- At the end of your message, type:
~~~~- This automatically adds your username and timestamp when you save the page.
6. Publish the Message
- Click Publish changes to post your message.
Once you publish the message, a notification banner will appear on any wiki page they visit with a link to your post, and they'll see the message itself when they open their talk page.
