User:Abserd/How to not be KOS in Surefall Glade
[[:Category:{{{1}}} Era|{{{1}}} ]]
Overview
If you rolled an Ogre like I did, you probably discovered pretty quickly that the folks in Surefall Glade are not exactly happy to see you. Fortunately, this can be fixed the old-fashioned EverQuest way: by doing the same quest over and over until everybody decides you are not so bad after all.
We will be repeating the Nesiff's Statue quest. The basic idea is to collect a full inventory of letters from Vesteri Nomanoi, Gate to Nesiff Tallaherd in South Qeynos, trade the letters for statues, and then return the statues to Vesteri.
Binding at Nesiff and using the Druid Ring of Surefall Glade ritual makes the trip much faster.
Requirements
- A character who can safely speak with Vesteri Nomanoi and Nesiff Tallaherd.
- A Druid leveled to at least 25 so you can obtain the Ring of Surefall Glade ritual.
- Gate or another quick way to return to your bind point.
- As much empty bag space as possible.
- Plenty of patience. This is still EverQuest, after all.
This is easiest to set up using a race and deity that are not already KOS to the NPCs involved. Once the ritual has been obtained, you can use the method on your Ogre or other KOS character, assuming the required NPCs will still deal with you.
Core Information
Here is the whole process in a nutshell:
Bind near Nesiff Tallaherd in South Qeynos. Ritual to Surefall Glade. Fill your bags with letters from Vesteri Nomanoi. Gate back to Nesiff. Trade the letters to Nesiff, four at a time. Collect the statues he gives you. Ritual back to Surefall Glade. Give all the statues to Vesteri. Keep doing it until you are no longer KOS.
It is repetitive, but binding and using the ritual cuts out most of the running.
Before you begin, create these two macros.
Macro 1
Name: Vaseri
/say what favor
Macro 2
Name: Auto Inventory
/autoinv
The first macro gets another letter from Vesteri. The second puts the letter from your cursor into an open inventory slot.
1. Bind at Nesiff
Travel to Nesiff Tallaherd in South Qeynos and bind near him.
This is important because you will be coming back to him with bags full of letters. When your inventory is full, you can simply Gate instead of running all the way back from Surefall Glade.
2. Empty Your Bags
Put away everything you do not need. The more empty slots you have, the more letters you can carry and the fewer trips you will need to make.
3. Ritual to Surefall Glade
Use the Druid Ring of Surefall Glade ritual and find Vesteri Nomanoi.
Target Vesteri before using your macro.
4. Fill Your Bags with Letters
Click the Vaseri macro repeatedly:
/say what favor
This will place letters on your cursor. Use the Auto Inventory macro to move them into your bags:
/autoinv
Keep requesting and storing letters until your bags are full.
5. Gate to Nesiff
Once you are carrying as many letters as possible, cast Gate. You should arrive back near Nesiff Tallaherd in South Qeynos.
6. Trade the Letters for Statues
Give the letters to Nesiff four at a time.
For every completed turn-in, he will give you a statue. Keep turning in letters until they are all gone and your bags are now full of statues.
7. Return to Surefall Glade
Use the Ring of Surefall Glade ritual again and return to Vesteri Nomanoi.
8. Turn In the Statues
Give the statues to Vesteri one at a time.
Each completed quest improves the associated factions. Once all the statues are gone, start the process again and collect another load of letters.
Keep making the trip until you have raised your faction enough that Surefall Glade is safe for your character.
Tips and Warnings
Make sure Vesteri and Nesiff will both speak to you before filling your bags with quest items. Give the letters to Nesiff four at a time. Empty bags make a big difference. Every extra slot means another quest turn-in before you have to travel again. This may take quite a few trips, especially for an Ogre with a bad starting faction. Do not assume that becoming non-KOS to one NPC means you are safe from every NPC in the zone. Test your faction carefully when you think you are getting close. EverQuest guards have never been known for giving second chances. Bringing invisibility or another escape option is a good idea while checking the guards. If this feels like an absurd amount of repetitive work just to walk safely through one small zone, welcome back to classic EverQuest.
Cursormaxxing
I found a much faster way to do this using cursor queue manipulation, which I am calling cursormaxxing.
EverQuest allows items to stack up in a hidden queue behind the item currently on your cursor. After some testing, I found that the cursor queue limit is 67 items. Life is ironic, isn't it?
Instead of using the Auto Inventory macro after receiving each letter, do the following: Put all your bags in the bank. You want as few slots to cleanup aftwards. Use the Vesteri macro to repeatedly say “what favor.” until your top inventory slots are full. Then, Leave each letter on your cursor instead of placing it in your inventory. (because there's no more room). Continue until you have 67 letters queued on your cursor. Gate directly to Nesiff Tallaherd. Hand in the letters one after another directly from your cursor.
The letters remain in the cursor queue after gating, so there is no need to move them from your bags back onto your cursor for every hand-in.
Since there is no room in your inventory, each statue Nesiff gives you will be added to the end of your cursor queue. The next letter will continue appearing on your cursor, ready to hand in.
Using this method, neither the letters nor the statues need to be manually moved between your cursor and inventory. You can just keep handing in letters until the queue is finished. With cursormaxxing, it is possible to reach Ally faction in about five minutes.
