This page is designed to be a repository of Steam Deck controller layouts. If you have a layout you would like to add, please follow the example format of the layouts already on this page, and make sure to include a link for users to acces and use your layout!

StackTrace

This layout is designed to mimic the FFXIV Cross Hotbar system. In this system, what the buttons on your Steam Deck do changes whether or not you have the Left Trigger, Right Trigger, or Neither Trigger Held. To better explain how this works, please refer to the image provided below:

Overview

In the image above, look at the hot bar placement at the bottom of the screen. Notice how there are 3 hotbars, arranged in 4x3 grids. Each of these hotbars corresponds with a different group of inputs on your Steam Deck

  • D-Pad Grid (Hotbar 1)
    • Represents the D-Pad on the left side of your Steam Deck Screen
  • Back Button Grid
    • Represents the 4 back buttons on the rear of your Steam Deck
  • Button Grid
    • Represents the 4 face buttons on the right side of your Steam Deck Screen

For each of these Hotbars, the rows of each hotbar are arranged in a very specific way. For each grid, each row of 4 buttons corresponds to a specific order of the buttons in each input group

  • D-Pad Grid (Hotbar 1)
    • From Left to Right: Left, Down, Right, Up
  • Back Button Grid (Hotbar 2)
    • From Left to Right: L4, L5, R4, R5
  • Button Grid
    • From Left to Right: X, A, B, Y

For example, for the Back Buttons Grid, for the top row of the grid, the button mappings are as follows:

  • L4 - TIme
  • L5 - Who
  • R4 - Begging
  • R5 - Bind Wound

Cross Hotbar

For those who have not played FFXIV, the cross hotbar allows the buttons on your controller to change into different actions, based on if you are holding the left trigger or right trigger. What this means is that for this layout, most of your actual hotbar actions will be accessed by pressing and holding either the left trigger, or right trigger, and then pressing the corresponding button. The buttons serve other purposes when these two triggers are not held down, which I will go into more detail with later. For now, look at the hotbar grids in the image. Notice the 3 labels with arrows. These represent which row of buttons will be active when a trigger is pressed.

  • Left Trigger Pulled
    • The hotbar items in the first row of each grid will be active and will be used when the corresponding button is pressed.
  • Right Trigger Pulled
    • The hotbar items in the second row of each grid will be active and will be used when the corresponding button is pressed.
  • No Trigger Pulled
    • The hotbar items in the third row of each grid will be active and will be used when the corresponding button is pressed.
    • Note that for this mode, the D-Pad and Button Pad DO NOT HAVE ANY bindings. This is intentional, as they serve other purposes when the triggers are not held.

As an example, let's look at the D-Pad button grid:

  • Left Trigger Pulled
    • Pressing Left would cast Minor Heal
    • Pressing Down would make you Sit
    • Pressing Right would show the Compass
    • Pressing Up would show the Map
  • Right Trigger Pulled
    • Pressing Left would open the Find window
    • Pressing Down show Zone Information
    • Pressing Right would open the Journal
    • Pressing Up would open your Friends / Ignore list
  • Neither Trigger Pulled
    • Will not do anything - the D-Pad serves a different function when the triggers are not held.

The D-Pad and Button pad function when neither trigger is pulled will be outlined in the following section.
