Editing Standards

From EverQuest Legends Wiki

Our editors may work quietly in their own corners of Norrath, each improving the parts of the wiki they know best. Yet somehow, all those individual efforts come together to create something that keeps getting better and better.

Once in a while our independent editing styles can bump into each other, and that's when things can get a little too social. To keep everything running smoothly, this page helps clear up what does and doesn't belong on the wiki.

Standards

AI Generated Content

Our content is created by players, for players, and we want it to feel that way. All graphics and readable page text should be crafted by real human contributors who know and love the game. While AI tools can be helpful for things like spellcheck, grammar, or polishing a sentence, fully AI‑generated pages, guides, or images aren't allowed here. We're not here to police anyone's workflow, but we do want to keep the heart of the wiki authentically player‑made. If something reads as obviously AI‑written, it may be edited or removed so the quality of the wiki, and our contributions, shine the way they deserve.

The EQLegends Wiki

All content on this site should be related to the game of EverQuest Legends (EQL), or other EverQuest official servers where appropriate. Any other content, including out-of-era content, content from other games, or real-life player (not character) information, is prohibited.

Write in an Objective Tone

Stick to fact based writing for the wiki, and focus on speaking for everyone (aka the royal "we"). Pages providing quest details, walkthroughs, or zone guides are encouraged to provide clear steps and offer up alternative ways to accomplish the quest tasks. Avoid opinions, speculation, or theorycrafting outside of pages that are clearly dedicated to such.

When in doubt, follow these guidelines:

  1. Opinions and speculative thoughts should not be included in wiki pages
  2. Signatures should not be included on page contents or wiki guide contents as you are not speaking in your own voice, you are speaking for the royal "we".
  3. You can give tips and warnings, as these can be fact based and not guesses or opinion.
  4. You can add multiple or alternative options/steps for things to help express multiple opinions.

Edit in Good Faith

In general, when a player edits a page to say a certain mob has a certain HP, it's assumed they did so after somehow determining that mob's HP. If they made a mistake in their calculation, that's ok, because they were still doing their best to make the wiki better for everyone.

However, if a troll changes a mob to have the wrong HP on purpose or renames the mob to "Doug" (eg. because Doug is a forum member they dislike, and they want to insult him somehow), then it's clear that edit wasn't made in the wiki's best interest, and the editor will face sanctions (likely a temporary ban for their first offense, and a permanent one if they continue to edit with bad intentions).

In other words, no one will ever be punished for honestly trying to improve the wiki, but they may be punished anytime they edit with an intention other than communal improvement.

The Wiki is Only for Communal Info (With Some Exceptions)

In general, our wiki is like an encyclopedia, which means it should only contain information that is neutral or generally agreed upon.

However, we do have exceptions: personal opinions are allowed on personal pages. In general, this means a page with someone's name in the title, such as a Magelo page, or a named guide page. If it is not a personal page, then please do not add a signature or post personal opinions.

Details

This wiki is not a place for drama of any kind, personal disputes, or edits targeting individuals. Do not use pages for personal attacks, retaliatory edits, or image changes based on who appears in a screenshot.

Spam, advertisements, offensive content, 'adult' content, etc., will be removed without warning and may result in a temporary or permanent ban, with or without warning.
