* Motes add points toward upgrading an item or spell to its next tier.
** For example, a +4 item showing Tier 4 and 1/16 has 1 of the 16 points needed to reach +5.
* Motes range from Rank 1 to Rank 10, from Infinitesimal through Infinite. A mote's Rank determines the highest item tier it can be used on.
* Spells have no restrictions for motes. Any Rank can be used at any + level, and motes generally add significantly more points to spells than items.
Void-Touched Potential
* Void-Touched Potential are special motes earned from raids that instantly advance an item or spell to its next tier, regardless of its current upgrade progress.
** For example, using one on a +1 item will raise it directly to +2, while using one on a +9 item will raise it directly to +10.
* A maximum of three can be earned each week from solo and group raids combined. The week resets Tuesdays at approximately 8:00 AM PT / 11:00 AM ET / 4:00 PM UK time.
* Because they bypass the points normally required, they are most valuable when used for higher-tier upgrades.
* Only three Void-Touched Potential can be held at a time.

Condensing Motes
Motes can be combined by giving them to a Constructed Potential found in cities around Norrath. Two motes of the same tier will be combined into one mote of the next tier up. The Construct will accept up to Mote of Grand Potential to condense into a Mote of Ascendant Potential (Needs Confirmed). You can give the Construct a stack of 100 motes and it will condense all of them and give you back 50 of the next tier up.

WARNING
It is generally a bad idea to condense most motes into higher motes. Most motes don't double in value. Increasing two Motes of Superior Potential (7 exp) only gives one Mote of Grand Potential (8 exp). The two exceptions are motes of minor and lesser potential. Condensing these motes results in a mote with double experience.

* For upgrading spells don't combine at all (other than minor and lesser motes to reduce the number of merges).
* For upgrading items, avoid combining if you have any other option. You may be forced to condense your motes to use them to upgrade high tier item, but before you do consider farming more of the item first. If you have no other choice or just have an abundance of motes you can condense them as a last resort.

Obtaining Motes
Motes have a chance to drop from any monster killed. The higher the difficulty of the zone will increase the minimum level of the mote that will drop. Killing mobs of a higher level (yellow or red) will also increase the chance of motes dropping. Additionally, the player's level will affect the level of the motes that drop - at level 15, typically the highest that will drop in a Difficulty 4 is a Tier 3 mote. There is always a chance for motes to roll higher.
** For example, using one on a +1 item will raise it directly to +2, while using one on a +9 item will raise it directly to +10.
* A maximum of three can be earned each week, regardless of whether they are earned from solo or group raids. The week resets Tuesdays at approximately 8:00 AM PT / 11:00 AM ET / 4:00 PM UK time.
* Because they bypass the points normally required, they are most valuable when used for higher-tier upgrades.
You can give the Construct a stack of 100 motes and it will condense all of them and give you back 50 of the next tier up.

* Motes of any Rank can be used on a spell regardless of its current + level, but the number of points added differs from items.

Void-Touched Potential
Void-Touched Potential are special motes earned from raids that instantly advance an item or spell to its next tier, regardless of its current upgrade progress. For example, using one on a +1 item will raise it directly to +2, while using one on a +9 item will raise it directly to +10.

A maximum of three can be earned per week, regardless of whether they are earned from solo or group raids. Because they bypass the points normally required, they are most valuable when used for higher-tier upgrades.

Note: Only three Void-Touched Potential can be held at a time.

</div>

Void-Touched Potential
There are special motes called Void-Touched Potential that do not add points. Instead, they always raise the tier of an item or spell to the next tier. For example, using one on a +1 item will raise it directly to +2, while using one on a +9 item will raise it directly to +10.

Only three can be earned each week from completing raids. Because they always advance an item or spell by one tier regardless of the points normally required, they are most valuable when used for higher-tier upgrades.

Motes of Potential are new items added to Everquest Legends. These are used to upgrade items and upgrade spells. While items can be upgraded by merging duplicate items and by merging motes, spells can only be upgraded with motes.

Motes of Potential Tiers
* Motes add a fixed number of points when used to upgrade an item or spell.
* Motes cannot add points to an item above a certain tier.
** For example, a Mote of Major Potential can be used to add 5 points to a +4 item or lower. It cannot be used on a +5 or higher item.
* Motes of any tier can be used to upgrade a spell of any tier.
** The number of points added to spells differs from the number added to items.
Void-Touched Potential
There are special motes called Void-Touched Potential that do not add points. Instead they always raise the tier of the item or spell to the next tier. So if you use one on a +1 item, it will go directly to +2; if you use one on a +9 item it will go directly to +10. Only three of these can be earned each week from completing raids. These are best used to increase items and spells from +9 to +10. It may even be best to use them on items, since spells can be increased by any mote but items are much more difficult to upgrade.
